Sophie Willan is a writer, actor, comedian, producer and activist, who is best-known for her BBC/Expectation TV series ALMA’S NOT NORMAL.

For the first series of ALMA’S NOT NORMAL, Sophie won a BAFTA Award for Best Female Comedy Performance, a BAFTA Craft Award for Best Writer: Comedy, and an RTS Programme Award for Best Scripted Comedy. For the second series, Sophie won a BAFTA for Best Scripted Comedy  and RTS Awards for Comedy Performance – Female, Writer – Comedy and Comedy Drama.

 Sophie will next be seen in Mackenzie Crook’s BBC series LOST PROPHETS.

2024 saw Sophie appearing in Series 17 of Channel 4’s much-loved comedy entertainment show TASKMASTER, alongside Steve Pemberton, Nick Mohammed, Joanne McNally, and John Robins. Sophie also appeared in series 1 of BBC’s LUDWIG with David Mitchell and Anna-Maxwell Martin.

In 2023, Sophie was seen starring in the hit BBC drama TIME 2, playing the role of inmate Maeve Riley, alongside Jodie Whittaker, Bella Ramsey, and Tamara Lawrance.

Sophie is also well-known for her voiceover and radio work: notably, she was the voice of reality show THE CIRCLE on Channel 4, and her hugely acclaimed BBC Radio 4 series SOPHIE WILLAN’S GUIDE TO NORMALITY can still be heard on BBC Sounds.

She has also previously toured two critically and commercially acclaimed stand-up shows, BRANDED in 2017, and ON RECORD in 2016.
